Ranging from the type of obesity which is simply caused by excessive intake of calories to obesity caused by poor metabolism or reaction to gluten – the reason always reveals the solution.
Neither all obesity types are same, nor are the same the reasons for them. Most people have variable weight throughout life – from slimmer to fatter stages. But, the body part where most fat is stored, indicates the real cause of obesity. Scientists identify six different causes of obesity.
Inactivity
This type is specific because the fat building happens mostly in the upper part of the body – starting from the hips to the face. The reason, besides the obvious things is consumption of too many calories, sedentary lifestyle and too little movement.
Obesity associated with food
In this type of obesity, weight is primarily gained around the waist. It is an indicator of excessive indulgence in unhealthy food – products filled with sugar, salt and fats.
Stomach Problems Obesity
In the third type of obesity, fat initially and mostly deposit on the area of the upper abdomen to the knee, as well as the legs and buttocks. According to experts, the most common cause is the occasional overeating and depression symptoms. It is more common in women.
Venous problems
Venous circulation is one of the causes of obesity, which in its essence is more dependent on genetics than lifestyle. Genes play a major role in storing fat exclusively in the area of the stomach. The decreased blood flow through the area leads to slowing metabolism. Indulgence in alcohol worsens the situation, and exercise is the only solution.
Atherogenic obesity
This type of weight gain is mostly located on the lowest body parts- the legs and buttocks. The reason is also genetics and it all comes down to weak blood circulation, and lifestyle habits contribute to it: sleep deprivation and little exercise. This condition may even lead to leg swelling. In such cases, avoiding alcohol and caffeine is recommended.
Gluten obesity
This type of fat is located from the chest to the hip area as well as the back. The most common reason for this is a bad reaction to gluten. It is more often in women and can appear in periods of hormonal imbalance.

When we are infants, we are born knowing to eat when we are hungry, and stop to when they are comfortable. But as we grow, we are exposed to a world of fad diets, food marketing & advertising ploys, food used as a reward & artificial foods that cause us to have incredible cravings. Because of these pitfalls, some individuals will be unable to follow a balanced way of eating, and begin to overeat.
Eating whole foods when you are hungry, then stopping when you are comfortably full is one of the keys to healthy living. But people who have been caught in the overeating web, now need to learn how to stop eating when they're comfortable, and if you've lost touch with this over the years, try these fool proof tips to get yourself back on the right track!
Tips to make yourself more likely to stop eating when you are comfortable.
Eat Slower & Chew Food Well: The University of Florida at Gainesville has shown it takes 12 or more minutes for food satisfaction signals to reach the brain of a thin person, but 20 or more minutes for an obese person. Eating slowly ensures that these important messages have time to reach the brain, and will help you stop eating sooner.
Choose Whole Foods: Stay away from foods that give you tons of calories, but very little volume. The higher the fiber, protein, and/or water content of a food or meal, the more likely it is to be satisfying without going overboard on calories. Also avoid processed foods and artificial sweeteners, these items cause cravings and make it hard to stop eating them even when you notice you're full.
Pay Attention: Don't eat when you are driving or at the computer, because when we are distracted or hurried the food (and calories) we consume may not to register in the brain. Give meals your full attention, and notice when you've had enough. Also using smaller plates and paying attention to the presentation of meals can help you stop eating when you are comfortable. "The brain looks at the plate and decides if the portion is adequate," says Gold. "It takes some time, but the smaller the plate, the smaller the portion."
Make Your First Bites Count: Maximum food enjoyment comes from the initial bites. After a few bites, taste buds start to lose their sensitivity to the chemicals in food that make it taste good. If you satisfy your taste buds by really savoring those first few bites, you can help stop yourself from eating more, when you're physically comfortable.
Have Healthy Snacks Ready: Having healthy foods ready to snack on throughout your day when hunger strikes, can keep you from overeating during your meals.
Creating a Satisfying Meal
Research during the past decade shows there are 3 factors that help make a meal more satisfying for us.
The weight of the food
The amount of protein
The amount of fiber.
A study done by the University of Sydney tested 38 foods, and of the foods tested, certain ones scored higher in satiety. The top-scoring foods included whole-meal bread, grainy bread, cheese, eggs, brown pasta, popcorn, all-bran cereal, grapes, porridge, baked beans, apples, beefsteak, ling fish (a type of cod), and oranges. FYI, all of these foods are high in fiber, water, or protein.
Foods that tend to have low satiety scores, which makes them much easier to overeat would be foods with large amounts of fat, sugar, and/or refined carbohydrates, like potato chips, candy bars, and white bread.
Eating healthy is important, but not everyone knows there are 10 alkaline diet staples to boost energy and lose weight.
These foods typically add other benefits too, so it is not a chore to add them to your meals on a daily basis.
Avocados, Bananas and Berries
With a pH value of 8.0, avocados and bananas also provide potassium and other health benefits. Avocados have antioxidant properties and can help prevent cancer. Meanwhile, adding berries to your diet can regular blood pressure.
Carrots, Celery and Garlic
These foods have antioxidants and a pH of 8.0. That helps them chemically react with foods with a pH of 5.0 and elevate them to near alkaline levels. Garlic helps regulate blood pressure.
Apples and Alfalfa
Apples are easy to digest, high in fiber and help a body maintain its hormonal balance. Apricots have a pH value of 8.0 and are also a good add to your daily meal plan.
Grapes, Pears, Pineapple and Raisins
These fruits help lower blood pressure, decrease risk of heart disease and provide antioxidants and Vitamins A, B and C. They have a pH of 8.5.
Kiwi
Kiwi provides favonoids, which are chemical compounds with antioxidant properties. It also is high in vitamin C, higher than an orange. Kiwi is also good for you because it contains natural fruit that does not make acid while being digested.
Watercress
Watercress has a pH of 8.5 and is a natural super food due to its high levels of iron and calcium, similar to seaweed. It is best eaten raw.
Limes, Mango and Papaya
A pH of 8.5 and the effect of cleansing the kidneys make these three fruits a wise addition to your daily diet. Papaya has properties to make it a healthy laxative, while limes and mangos are rich in vitamins and form alkalines during digestion.
Cantaloupe
Cantaloupe has a pH of 8.5 and is high in fiber. It is a fruit but is low in sugar compared to other fruits, giving you a good serving for your diet.
Cayenne
Cayenne not only has a pH of 8.5, but it also contains Vitamin A and antibacterial properties to fight illness. It also helps decrease stress levels.
Watermelon
Watermelons are very alkaline. They have a significant fiber and water content, with 92% of its weight made up of water. Lycopene, Vitamin C and beta-carotene can also be gotten from a serving of watermelon.
These foods help the diet in more ways than one. They can add great benefits, give you the appropriate servings of fruits and vegetables and help your body process vitamins and minerals more efficiently. For this reason, these foods are a great choice to add to your meals and pick up at the grocery store.
They help with weight loss as well, which is important for those trying to turn over a new leaf in terms of lifestyle and eating habits. Rotate them to provide variety and ensure your diet contains the right amount of alkaline foods.
Low carb diets have been around for over two centuries, however most mainstream medical doctors have yet to acknowledge the benefits of the diet, but perhaps this is bound to change as more and more studies begin to highlight the advantages of a low carb diet.
Low carb diets are certainly not new, with John Rollo reporting the use of a low carb diet to treat diabetes in 1797 and William Banting publishing his “Letter on Corpulence Addressed to the Public” in 1863. In fact, many low carb diets are still referred to as “Banting Diets.”
What are Low Carb Diets
Simply put, low carb diets are based on restricting your carbohydrate intake and increasing the amount of protein and fat you consume.
If you want to follow a low carb diet you need to restrict your intake of sugar, fruits, some vegetables, and starches (many vegetables are permitted on a low-carb diet, however, many starchy vegetables contain carbohydrates and should be restricted).
Bread, refined sugar, rice, and pasta are generally on the restricted or to be avoided list, while meat, eggs, fish, cheese, and other proteins are on the unrestricted list.
With over twenty clinical trials conducted over the last eleven years alone, the benefits of low carb diets are quickly becoming recognized and accepted. Here are some of the benefits of implementing a low carb diet:
Low carb diets regulate insulin levels
Low carb diets support fat loss
Low carb diets offer a metabolic advantage
Low carb diets reduce cardiovascular risk factors
Low carb diets can reduce food cravings
Low carb diets can reduce appetite leading to lower calorie intake
Insulin Regulation and Low Carb Diets
Insulin levels and insulin sensitivity are hot topics when you read discussions on obesity and diabetes, and with good reason. Insulin is responsible for three main functions in your body:
It allows cells to absorb and use glucose for energy.
It removes excess levels of glucose from your blood.
It allows glucose to be stored as fat if the cells don’t need glucose for energy.
When you eat too much sugar, the pancreas may not be able to produce sufficient insulin and this leads to high blood glucose levels, which leads to diabetes (get familiar with these 13 early signs of diabetes).
When your cells become insulin resistant it leads to metabolic syndrome, which leads to fatigue and other serious conditions like cardiovascular disease and obesity.
In a clinical study done on 132 severely obese individuals, the New England Journal of Medicine found that insulin levels reduced by 27% and that overall insulin sensitivity increased in the individuals on a low carb diet.[1]
Water, Fat, and Weight Loss
The bottom line is that most of us choose to go on diet to lose weight.
There are different types of weight loss, namely water loss and fat loss. Water loss often occurs at the start of a diet. Insulin levels can affect how much water you retain and a change in insulin levels or blood glucose levels can therefore affect how much water you lose initially.
Long term weight loss is normally associated with fat loss as opposed to water loss.
Low carb diets are well known for encouraging water weight loss in the first two weeks of the diet because they often have a big effect on insulin levels. But this doesn’t mean you only lose water on low carb diets.
In more than twenty studies done over the last eleven years on low carb versus low fat diets, individuals on low carb diets lost more weight in the short and long-term. Individuals on low carb diets also lost more abdominal and visceral fat and low carb groups often lost two to three times more weight than individuals on low fat diets.[2]
The Metabolic Advantage of Low Carb Diets
The metabolic advantage is what most dieters dream about.
Essentially, your metabolic rate is used to describe how much energy your body produces and uses in a given period of time. The more energy your body needs the more fuel it burns and the easier you lose weight and fat. More muscle weight means your body burns more calories for energy (read more about it in my article about the top 10 factors that affect your metabolism).
The increase in protein consumption on low carb diets is thought to be responsible for increased energy expenditure, which creates the metabolic advantage associated with low carb diets.[3] Eating more proteins is also one of the 70 habits featured in my e-book 70 Powerful Habits For A Great Health which will guide you how to take positive steps to improve your wellness and overall health.
Low Carb Diets Reduce Certain Cardiovascular Risks
Cholesterol and triglyceride levels are two of the most important indicators of cardiovascular health and they are often used to determine the risks of developing various cardiovascular disorders (please be aware that there are various opinions about the role of cholesterol and you can read more about it in my article What Most Doctors Won’t Tell You About Cholesterol).
When HDL cholesterol levels (good cholesterol) increase, cardiovascular risks decrease and cardiovascular health is improved.
In over 18 studies on low carb versus low fat diets, individuals on the low carb diet saw a greater increase in HDL cholesterol levels and in 19 studies, individuals on low carb diets saw greater reductions in triglyceride levels than those on low fat diets.[2]
Low Carb Diets and Food Cravings
Food cravings are a dieter’s nemesis. For most of us, food cravings spell diet disaster, so a diet that can not only help you to lose weight but that can actually help to reduce food cravings is a diet made in heaven.
Low carb diets may actually help to reduce food cravings because they help to regulate blood sugar levels and they reduce insulin levels in the body. Blood sugar levels are one of the most important underlying causes of food cravings.
When your blood sugar levels drop, your body is designed to crave carbohydrates to help it to normalize the levels of glucose in your blood.
When you eat sugar or carbohydrates, blood sugar levels increase and this causes the pancreas to produce insulin to remove excess glucose from the blood, which in turn creates a vicious cycle because when the glucose levels drop you crave carbohydrates again.
By reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing protein intake, blood sugar levels no longer spike, reducing your cravings for sweet foods.
Low Carb Diets and Appetite Regulation
Blood sugar levels, food cravings, and appetite are all linked by insulin and ghrelin levels in the body. Leptin and ghrelin are commonly called the hunger hormones and these hormones are responsible for regulating appetite (read more about it in my article on How to Reset Your Hormones and Melt Fat).
Studies show low carb diets increase ghrelin and reduces leptin levels. Individuals in low carb diets are often less hungry, experience less cravings for carbohydrates, and they generally tend to consume fewer calories naturally.[5]
Low Carb Diets – The Evidence is Clear
A low carb diet may not be for everyone, but the evidence is clear: Low carb diets can be extremely beneficial for losing weight and improving overall health.
If you are looking for a less restrictive diet – you can find more information in my eBook Blast Your Belly Fat. This eBook is the ultimate guide for losing belly fat for good without counting calories.
Walking is one of the safest forms of exercise known today. Depending on how often you walk, you can manage to easily lose one pound per week or more. Think about it, in less than five months you can be 20 pounds lighter without spending hours at the gym and without going on a diet.
While you shed the pounds and inches from your body, you are also toning your muscles and improving your health. Once you learn how to implement the principles of walking to lose weight into your lifestyle, you will surely be hooked on this easy and beneficial exercise routine.
How to Lose Weight by Walking
The number of calories you can burn by walking is determined by your body weight and walking pace. On average, if you walk at a pace of 4 miles per hour (a common pace) you can burn roughly 400 calories per hour.
You don’t necessarily need to go 4 miles a day. As an example, if you commit to walking 3 extra miles, they would be burning an extra 300 calories a day. You can even walk a shorter distance than that and combine it with your daily schedule. You can use a device called pedometer to help you burn extra calories while walking and doing your daily schedule.
Pedometers and Weight Loss
If you are trying to lose weight through walking, one of the best things that you can do to boost the chances of success for your efforts is to go out and buy a good quality pedometer (like this one) or a wrist band that can track your daily activities (like this one).
Pedometer is a helpful device that you attach to your clothing near your hip area. It is light weight and has a variety of features. The main feature is counting the number of steps you take during your workout or throughout your entire day.
In order to find out how many miles you need to cover to drop extra pounds, you need to find out how many you are currently covering. This way, you will know by how much you need to increase your steps, or distance each day in order to be able to see a difference in the number on the scale.
For example; if you currently take 8,000 steps with your existing routine and daily habits and are maintaining weight, the number of steps that you need to increase your daily distance to lose weight is simply a matter of mathematics; increasing your mileage according to the number of calories you want to burn (more details on that below).
How Many Steps To Take to Lose Weight?
To lose weight the average person needs to take about 2,000 steps in the average mile. One mile burns about 100 calories. This means your pedometer will help you keep track of your steps, how many miles you reach each day and how many calories you burn. It will also help you if you don’t have time to exercise. You can simply add steps to your daily routine.
1 Mile = 2,000 steps and 100 calories burned
1 Pound – 3,500 calories
1 Pound weight loss per week = 500 calorie deficit per day
To lose 1 pound per week you need to add 10,000 steps to your day.
If 10,000 steps sounds a lot, here are a few ideas on how to fit all that walking into your busy day(remember – you don’t need to start from 10,000 steps. Start gradually – you will just lose less weight).
Get off the bus early and walk the rest of the way home or to work.
Park your car further away from your destination and walk the extra distance.
Walk to the station instead of taking the car or bus.
Take the stairs instead of the lift.
Walk the children to school.
Depending on the style or type of pedometer it may have advanced features including keeping track of the number of pounds you lost and how many calories you burned. This information helps you keep track of your progress by giving you a clear picture of what you have physically achieved during your walk.
Due to the important details recorded you will want to invest in a good quality pedometer (like this one) to assure every step is counted. According to the American Medical Association, wearing a pedometer is essential to long-term weight control and successful weight loss.
How to Keep it Interesting
Walking the same old track can become boring so keep your routine interesting by switching things around.
Walk outdoors at different parks, different neighborhoods and bring along music to enjoy, motivate and energize you to complete your daily walk.
Don’t let cold winter weather hold you back from your daily walk. Invest in a treadmill and place it in front of a window or television. You can enjoy viewing nature by glaring out the window during your routine or point the treadmill towards your television and savor every minute of your favorite show.
You can also invite a family member or friend along. Even if they join you only once a week, it is still a beneficial way to mix up your routine. Often, dedicated walkers will become bored with the same old routine, so don’t let it happen to you.
Keep it interesting and switch up your routine as much as you like.
Walking Style
Everyone knows how to walk and have been doing so since they were a small child. However, over the years bad posture and habits may have caused you to have less than desirable walking standards.
When walking for exercise you will want to keep your chin up, focus your eyes about 10 feet forward, keep a long stride, pull in your abdomen towards your spine and squeeze your glutes. This style of walking will help you achieve maximum benefits from your workout.
How Often to Walk
Before you begin your walking routine you will want to consult with your primary physician to assure you are healthy to participate in the activity.
Once you receive your physician’s approval, you will want to begin walking three days per week for 15 to 20 minutes. Then you will want to gradually increase the frequency until you are walking 30 to 60 minutes per day almost every day of the week.
You will be pleased to know that moderate exercise is one of the best things you can do to lose weight. It is also one of the 3 things you can do to lose 88 pounds in one year without a diet. Incorporating physical activities into your daily life is also one of the 70 habits featured in my e-book 70 Powerful Habits For A Great Health which will guide you how to take positive steps to improve your wellness and overall health.

The ancient condiment—the earliest known use of vinegar dates back more than 10,000 years and has been used as both food and medicine—is enjoying a real resurgence lately. As a folk remedy, apple cider vinegar has been credited with curing everything from the flu to warts. Many of its supposed benefits are unproven, but some experts think that adding a little of this sour liquid to your life may have some health benefits. Even Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, used apple cider vinegar in 400 B.C. to treat allergies, arthritis, high blood pressure and many other health conditions. Also, Japanese Samurai, Roman soldiers and military groups throughout history have used apple cider vinegar for these same qualities, as an antiseptic, antibacterial and as an energizer.
Heartburn
If you feel heartburn symptoms coming on, simply dilute one tablespoon of ACV in some water. For better taste you can add a little raw honey.
Clear Skin
Dip a washcloth in apple cider vinegar and apply to your face to remove the excess oil. This is also very good against acne and the scars from acne.
Antifungal
Simply apply apple cider vinegar externally to affected area. Also you can soak the area in 1 part apple cider vinegar, 5 parts water, for 30 minutes a day if possible.
Sore Muscles
Rub apple cider vinegar directly over sore muscles. Another alternative is to mix a tablespoon with water and gulp it down to relieve pain.
Anti-Itching Means
Apple cider vinegar can be very effective against itchiness, jellyfish sting or even poison ivy. Simply apply it directly to skin and the results will amaze you.
